Integration with Face Detection

CAYIN integrates SMP players with facial recognition technology to deliver personalized contents by judging the viewer’s age or gender or by the number of viewers.

Preparing for the Configuration

At this moment, CAYIN SMP players only supports QNAP QVR Face Tiger. Therefore, please follow the steps below to make the necessary preparations.

  1. Prepare a QNAP NAS and a Webcam/IP Cam; connect the camera to the NAS.
  2. Install the facial recognition APP, QVR Face Tiger 1.0.1.0 or later, on the QNAP NAS. Please visit QVR Face Tiger’s website to learn more about its versions, supported NAS models, product functions and operation guides.
  3. Prepare a CAYIN SMP player and deploy the player and the NAS within the same network environment.
  4. Log in SMP’s Web Manager, go to SYSTEM > Service > SDK Configuration page and enable SMP’s SDK function. You can decide whether to enable authentication.

Full Screen or Video Zone?

There are two ways for you to arrange your content layout when you use the face-detection function.

Play content in full screen

Please follow all steps in this page and complete all necessary configurations. When the trigger criterion of face detection is met, SMP will start to play the designated content in full screen.

Play content in a video zone

If you would like to play the face-detection content in a video zone only rather than in full screen, the only thing you need to do in this page is to add a webcam. Then, set the trigger criteria and playback contents directly in the video zone of a Skin or a Program.

Adding a Cam

First, we need to establish the connection between the SMP player and QVR Face Tiger.

  1. Click Add a Webcam and you will see a pop-up window.
  2. Fill in the following information.
Name Assign a name to the Webcam.
IP address Enter the IP address of the NAS (e.g., http://IP:port or https://IP:port).
Username Enter the username which can log in the NAS.
Password Enter the password of the above username.
  3. Click the Connect button to check the availability of the connection between the SMP player and QVR Face Tiger. At the same time, SMP will retrieve the task list from QVR Face Tiger.
  4. Select a task from the drop-down menu of Channel. If the field is empty, it means that either the connection attempt fails, or you have not created any task in QVR Face Tiger.
  5. After selecting a channel, you should be able to see its webcam preview on the right-hand side.
  6. Click Save to create the connection completely.
  7. Then, you will see this cam in the list of cams. Please note that you can only add a maximum of four cams.

Mapping a Cam to a Display

After editing the cam list, you need to assign a camera to a display (playback). Each display can only be mapped to one camera at the same time.

Please locate the Playback Settings area, select a cam in the dropdown menu of each Playback, and then click Save.

Editing Criteria and Playback Content

You can set more than one trigger criterion and corresponding playback contents for each criterion.

  1. Click Add a list and you will see the Face Detection Setting page.
  2. Set detection criteria. There are three kinds of criteria: People (number of people), Gender, and Age. Gender and age can be combined as one criterion. However, you cannot set either gender or age at the same time if you choose the number of people as your detection criterion.
    Note

You should enable the gender or age detection when you create a task in QVR Face Tiger, otherwise SMP cannot retrieve any detection data even though you set gender or age as your trigger criterion on SMP’s Web Manger.

  3. Edit playback content. There are five types of contents you can play once the face detection result meets the criteria.
Program You can select but cannot edit a program here. If you see an empty table here, it means you have not created any program. Please add one in Playback or Library page.
Playlist Click Edit Playlist and select at least one playlist. If there is no playlist in the editing page, it means you have not created any playlist. Please add one in Playback or Library page.
Video You can choose to play video files in the Media Folder, network streaming, or video input. For video files, you can click the Edit Playlist button to create a video playlist directly on this page. If you want to see more detailed instructions, please refer to the settings of Video Zone.
Image You can click the Edit Playlist button to create an image playlist directly on this page. For more detailed instructions, please refer to the settings of Image Zone.
HTML/Flash You can choose to play HTML/Flash files in the Media Folder or from remote URL, xPost, Twitter, Weather, QR code, or embedded codes from other websites. For more detailed instructions, please refer to the settings of HTML/Flash Zone.
  4. Set a termination condition to decide when the above content should be stopped playing.
    • The video(s) end. This option is only available when you set video as your playback content.
    • You can set a playback duration to specify a time limit.
    • The detection result does not match the criteria anymore.
    • Nobody is watching the camera.
  5. Click Save to complete setting. Then, you will see this item in the list of interactions.
  6. If you have more than one items in the list of interactions, you can change the order of items by clicking an item, dragging, and dropping it. The fields at the top of the list have a higher priority when there are overlap criteria.
